It's National Chocolate Day!
I woke up this morning to learn that it's National Chocolate Day and I plan to celebrate with a treat!
First some news: Believe it or not - not all chocolate is created equal! So before you reach for the rich and creamy stuff, take a look at the list below to help you choose your chocolate wisely.
My choice is raw Cacao. Here's why...
Cacao, the raw chocolate superfood, is most beneficial in it's unprocessed form. A few things to note about it's benefits and form:
First, make sure you buy raw cacao (ka-cow), not the processed, roasted, cocoa (coco) used in most chocolate bars.
Raw cacao nibs (similar to chocolate chips) and cold-pressed cacao powder are loaded with super antioxidants and tons of minerals like magnesium, iron and fiber.
Raw cacao is said to lower inflammation, LDL cholesterol, risk of heart disease & cancer.
Raw cacao boosts brain health, boosts mood and creates a blissful state. Love it!
For maximum benefits use cacao without dairy or with a milk substitute like almond or coconut milk. Dairy products have shown to blocks the healthy benefits cacao has to offer.
You can enjoy it in bars with more than 70% raw cacao; use nibs in oatmeal or over fruit; add cacao powder to shakes, coffee, or even cooking.
